Opening night for Mod Mania took place Tuesday with a trio of Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series racers steering their machines into the winner’s circle at the Mason City Motor Speedway.
Kyle Falck of Decorah picked up the win and $400 for his efforts in the American Racer USRA Stock Cars. The 2016 Christie Door Company Iron Man Challenge champion bested three-time USRA B-Mod national champ Matt Jones of Waukon.
Brayden Gjere of Mabel, Minn., won the most recent Stock Car main event at the new 1/3-mile Action Track and brought home a third-place finish Tuesday night ahead of McIntire’s Blake Adams and Joe Schmit of Ventura.
Kyle Falck won the American Racer USRA Stock Car main event.
In USRA B-Mod action, national title contender Jim Chisholm held off Ryan Maitland for the win and $400 top prize. Maitland, however, was disqualified during post-race technical inspections and the runner-up spot on the podium was inherited by the winner’s younger brother, Joe Chisholm.
Jim Chisholm, 17, registered his ninth victory this season under the USRA banner while Joe Chisholm celebrated behind him just one day after turning 14.
Following the Osage speedsters to the finish line was a pair of Mason City racers, Jamie Anderson and George Nordman, while Taylor Skauge of Caledonia, Minn., rounded out the top five.
Scott Dobel of Manly made his fifth trip to victory lane this season in the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks by holding off 2009 USRA national champ Chris Hovden of Cresco.
Meanwhile, Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., continued his march toward an unprecedented sixth crown as the third driver to see the checkered flag, Kyle Sidles of Algona claimed the fourth spot and fifth place went to Austin Hoeft of Charles City.
Scott Dobel won the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock main event.
More Mod Mania: Theinaugural event continues Wednesday and Thursday at the Mason City Motor Speedway. The pits are slated to open at 3 p.m. and grandstand gates swing open at 5 each day. Hot laps will begin at 7 with qualifying getting underway at 7:30.
Stock Cars and B-Mods will be battling for $500 to win and $75 to start on Wednesday while Thursday’s finale is worth $750 to win and $90 to start the main event. Hobby Stock racers are going $400 to win and $60 to start on Wednesday and Thursday is $500 to win with $75 to start.
With the fire-breathing Modifieds of the Summit USMTS National Championship fueled by Casey’s completing the four-division card, each night is a complete program with qualifying heats and feature races. There is no entry fee for Stock Car, B-Mod or Hobby Stock competitors and Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points are awarded every night.
Spectator tickets for those ages 17-61 are $20 each day while seniors (62+) and juniors (12-16) are just $15. Youth (6-11) are $5. Pit passes for everybody 11 and older are $35 Wednesday and $40 Thursday while youth (6-10) are $20 Wednesday and $25 Thursday. Children 5 and under get in free both days at both gates.
