Skauge and Hovden win while Falck hits paydirt again at Mod Mania

Round two of the inaugural Mod Mania took place Wednesday at the Mason City Motor Speedway with two new face in victory lane and a repeat winner in Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series competition.

In the 18-lap American Racer USRA Stock Car main event, Kyle Falck of Decorah won for a second straight night while Matt Jones of Waukon settled for the runner-up paycheck for the second time in as many nights.

The win was worth $500 and brought Falck’s two-night take to $900. A top prize of $750 awaits Thursday’s winner.

Joe Schmit of Ventura brought home a third-place finish followed by 2018 Iron Man Challenge champ Dillon Anderson of Decorah and Brayden Gjere of Mabel, Minn.

Taylor Skauge of Caledonia, Minn., clawed his way forward from the seventh starting spot to score a $500 USRA B-Mod main event win over two-time USRA Bod national champion Brandon Hare of Elma.

Brandon Maitland of Waterloo bounced back to finish third in thee 20-lapper after a runner-up finish the previous night was washed away in post-race tech. Ninth-starting George Nordman of Mason City held off Jayden Larson of Mankato, Minn., for fourth.


Taylor Skauge won the USRA B-Mod main event.

Chris Hovden, who captured the Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock national title in 2009, collected $400 as he sped to victory in the Wednesday night’s Hobby Stock feature with fellow Cresco racer Scott Spilde following in second.

Five-time national champ Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, S.D., wound up third for a second night in a row. Kyle Sidles of Algona finished fourth and Charles City’s Austin Hoeft completed the top five in the night’s final contest.

Mod Mania continues Thursday at the Mason City Motor Speedway. The pits are slated to open at 3 p.m. and grandstand gates swing open at 5. Hot laps will begin at 7 with qualifying getting underway at 7:30.

Stock Cars and B-Mods will be battling for $750 to win and $90 to start the main event. Hobby Stock racers are going for $500 to win and $75 to start.

With the fire-breathing Modifieds of the Summit USMTS National Championship fueled by Casey’s completing the four-division card, a complete program is on tap with qualifying heats and feature races. There is no entry fee for Stock Car, B-Mod or Hobby Stock competitors and Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points will be awarded.

Spectator tickets for those ages 17-61 are $20 while seniors (62+) and juniors (12-16) are just $15. Youth (6-11) are $5. Pit passes for everybody 11 and older are $40 while youth (6-10) are $25 to get in the pits. Children 5 and under get in free at both gates.
