Arends, Chodur, Nielsen, Kilwine first winners at new Mason City Motor Speedway
A new era began at the Mason City Motor Speedway on Sunday when the historic facility hosted full-throttle dirt track racing for the first time in more than a year on a new, wide, high-banked 1/3-mile action track.
The first on-track competition in more than a year saw q109 entries in four divisions, including 32 American Racer USRA Stock Cars, 36 Out-Pace USRA B-Mods and 27 Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, along with 14 entrants fro the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini-Mod Series for their first appearance at the track.
Having the highest car count meant the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods got paid the most prize money, and taking the biggest chunk was Nate Chodur of Lake Mills.
Chodur pocketed $600 for the win with Waterloo's Ryan Maitland in second, Jared Boumeester of Waseca, Minn., in third, Doug McCollough of Webster City finishing fourth and Mason City's Jamie Anderson rounding out the top five.
In the American Racer USRA Stock Cars, Colton Arends of Luverne, Minn., was triumphant and collected $500 with Kevin Donlan of Decorah settling for the runner-up paycheck.
Blake Adams of McIntire was third while Boyden's Randy Brands and Andrew Borchardt of Plymouth finished fourth and fifth, respectively, after coming from the tenth row on the starting grid.
Five lucky Stock Car drivers also pocket $100 on top of the advertised purse courtesy of Chris Adams from Adams Chassis.
Colton Arends won the American Racer USRA Stock Car main event.
Brandon Nielsen of Spencer captured $400 in winning the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock main event over Zac Smith of Manly.
National points leader Eric Stanton of Carlisle raced from tenth to third at the finish line, followed by Tyson Overton of Carlisle and Marble Rock's Derek Willert.
Brandon Nielsen won the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock main event.
From the eighth starting position, Nathan Kilwine of Glenville, Minn., came home the winner in the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini-Mod Series feature race.
Logan Brown of Clear Lake, Bobby Ruehlow of Mason City, Scott Johnson of Owatonna, Minn., and Micheal Bryant of Mason City rounded out the top five.
Nathan Kilwine won the Liquid Nitro Outlaw Mini-Mod Series main event.
The USRA Modifieds will headline the season-ending show on Sept. 22, which is the day after the final night of the Featherlite Fall Jamboree at the Deer Creek Speedway just north of the Iowa-Minnesota border. Mods-Lites will have that night off with USRA Tuners joining the American Racer USRA Stock Cars, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods and Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks.
